    GENERAL LAYOUT

Enter through the cockpit/aft salon Dutch door into the salon.  A hanging locker is immediately inside, to starboard, and the salon lays out forward connecting with the galley.  The dining table and settee are to starboard, and the joinerwork that includes the TV lift and component storage are to port.

The galley counter is extended to provide an area for eating while seated in the two bar chairs provided.

Just forward of the dining area are stairs up to the .  Forward of the  stairs is access to the utility room and engine room, as well as the hallway leading to the main electrical distribution panel, master and guest staterooms, and pantry.

First in the hallway to port is the master stateroom with king bed and bath ensuite.  Just across the hall is a large pantry with room for ship’s stores as well as cleaning items.

Just forward of the pantry is the guest/day bath which can be joined to the forward guest stateroom by closing the hallway door just aft of the bath door.

Access to the guest stateroom is all the way forward.  The guest stateroom includes a centerline queen bed with access to each side, copious amounts of drawer and locker storage, and a changing seat.

A hatch in the forward cabin sole accesses the forward machinery space containing plumbing and mechanical systems, including hydraulic components, watermakers, hot water heater and pumps.

Back to the stairway access down to the utility room, which is forward of the engine room, there’s a separate washer and dryer, an additional freezer, locker and drawer storage, a vanity with sink, a single berth for overflow sleeping, and the engine room door with a window.

Back up the steps to the salon, and immediately aft, are the steps up to the .  “Ghost’s”  provides the perfect gathering spot for the crew while underway.

A wide instrument console and two very comfortable Stidd helm chairs create a no-compromise operating environment.

    Salon

    Headroom:  6ʹ-10”

The asymmetrical interior layout takes full advantage of Ghost’s 18-foot beam, while still providing enough space for a secure side-deck with a deep bulwark on the starboard side.

Entering from the cockpit through the aft salon door you’ll notice the horizontal grain teak.  The salon is furnished with an L-shaped dinette to starboard and an Ekornes recliner chair that can be positioned to suit.  There is bound edge carpet with integral anti-skid back over the teak and spruce cabin sole.  Lots of natural light enters through five sides, and two aft windows of engineered glass.  The aft Dutch door also has upper and lower windows and a roll-out Phantom screen mounted in the frame.

    Salon Features:

    •    Teak dinette table with removable center leaf, adjustable table pedestals lower to coffee table height
    •    Crescent shaped settee with Ultraleather upholstery, seating for four to five
    •    There are two chairs at the galley counter
    •    Custom bound edge carpet with integral anti-skid back is easily removable for cleaning and adds sound attenuation
    •    Multiple windows for light and viewing while seated in the salon
    •    Custom shades on all windows
    •    Aft Dutch door for ventilation has windows above and below
    •    Phantom screen on aft door mounted in custom valance
    •    Separate heat and air-conditioning zone
    •    2ea. overhead stainless steel handrails
    •    Salon sole is above the engine room and is constructed of a composite of ¾" plywood above and below a 3" layer of Nidacore cell material, a 2" layer of lead foam insulation in the engine room overhead surfaced with aluminum perforated sheeting in the engine room, results in a very comfortable interior sound level.

    Galley:

    Headroom:  6ʹ-10"

The salon joins the galley at its forward end.  Ghost features a custom crescent-shaped galley counter for increased floorspace to accommodate two cooks.
The granite countertop has a beautiful pattern that harmonizes with Ghost’s interior motif.  The countertop is extended for dining space using the two appropriately designed chairs.  There is a clear visual connection between the salon and galley for easy socializing.  The galley includes all the appliances necessary for efficient meal preparation.  Two refrigerators with freezer drawers and icemakers, along with an additional freezer in the utility room, provide plenty of cold storage for long passages.  The storage space in the galley is supplemented by a large pantry in the hallway.

The induction cooktop and electric oven eliminate the need for large propane tank storage, or the hunt for propane and compatible fill adapters in distant ports.

The Alfresco cockpit grill is propane, however.

    Galley Features:

    •    Viking induction cooktop and oven
    •    Viking microwave and convection oven
    •    2ea. GE refrigerators with two freezer drawers, two of which have icemakers

The master stateroom has a bed measuring 80"x60" and a large amount of storage distributed in lockers and drawers.  The mattress is custom made.

Two large rectangular portlights allow natural light in, and sliding Shoji screens diffuse the light and provide privacy.  There are reading lights on either side of the bed, and a full height dressing mirror on the inboard bulkhead.

Furuno 9" touch screen display mounted at head of bed forward.

    Master Bath:

    Headroom:  6ʹ-10"

The bath ensuite to the stateroom includes a granite topped vanity with a stone vessel sink and Grohe fixtures.

The toilet is a Tecma “Silence Plus” freshwater flush version.  Each toilet has an integral macerator so that evacuating the blackwater tank is much easier and reduces the chance of clogging anywhere in the plumbing.

    The shower has 6ʹ-10" headroom.

    Guest (forward) Stateroom:

    Headroom:  6ʹ-10"

The bed is on centerline and measures 80" x60"

There is a gathering place and sometime dining area in addition to the center of operation.  Added conveniences include a sleeping cabin with a double berth and a head with shower.

The settee can accommodate 4-5 crew members with good site lines forward.  The view is enhanced by a wide windscreen of engineered glass, of a rating that allows the removal of the standard center mullion.

A drinks refrigerator was installed in the port side section of the settee.

Twin Stidd helm chairs add the convenience of easy conversation and an extra pair of eyes on the water and the navigation instruments.  Radar, plotter, cameras, depth and other nav information are displayed beautifully on three KEP 24" monitors.

The upper and lower dash panels themselves are mounted using piano hinges to facilitate access to components behind them.

Redundancy is present for all the essential information for safe navigation.  For a detailed description of the electronics complement, please see the heading, “Navigation/Communication Electronics” below.

The forward overhead panels are upholstered in black fabric, which along with the reverse slanted windscreens, are designed to reduce instrument glare reflection.

Defrosting louvers in the diesel heating system are located at the base of the windscreens.

The sole is teak and spruce covered by a bound edge carpet easily removed for cleaning.

    Head

    Headroom:  6ʹ-10"

The  head is located aft and to starboard, and is a great convenience while underway, and to accommodate guests onboard.  The shower has plenty of headroom and has an opening hatch overhead.

    On Deck

There are three control stations:  port and starboard “wing” stations just outside the  allow a view along the full length of the boat, especially useful when docking.  The aft station in the cockpit offers another option when backing in to slip or Med-mooring.  All stations are equipped with thruster controls, main engine control, engine start and stop buttons, and an anchor windlass control.  When Med-mooring, the anchor chain can be paid out while backing toward the quay.

The long foredeck easily handles the 9ʹ and 16ʹ  inflatable tenders on Ghost.  Steelhead 2,500 lb. capacity davit extends from 11ʹ to 16ʹ’ to easily handle the tenders.  Unique to Ghost is a 9 lb. carbon fiber ladder for boarding the tenders after launching.  Once launched, the tender mounting chocks can be removed to create a clear foredeck.

Having the  positioned aft produces a great sense of the boat’s position related to maneuvering while docking.

The stainless steel framed bimini top surrounding the  has integrated awnings over the side  doors and covering for the seating area aft of the .

    Mechanical

Ghost is configured with a single main propulsion engine, and an auxiliary single “wing engine”.  This configuration has been standard on all Nordhavn models up to 68ʹ since the first Nordhavn 46 in 1988.  It has proven to be the most fuel efficient and very reliable configuration in the Nordhavn 40ʹ to 68ʹ  size range over many years of long-range cruising over many hundreds of thousands of miles, including many trans-oceanic passages and many circumnavigations.

This configuration is most often configured as keel-cooled with dry stack exhaust.  Keel-cooling eliminates the need for a raw water pump with a rubber impeller.  Only a freshwater and coolant mixture circulates through the cooling system without raw water being introduced to any engine component, and with it the possibility of ingesting various forms of debris.  The freshwater cooling system pump is metal vaned, and durable for many thousands of hours before replacement.
