The Atlantic 31 has a good sailing performance with a lead keel. She has a spacious cockpit given her overall length and responsive tiller steering. She is mostly used singlehanded and her large sugar scoop/integral bathing platform with transom gate allow easy access when stern too mooring.

Below decks the galley is located to port with the aft facing chart table opposite to starboard. Forward of these is U shaped seating surrounding the saloon table. An excellent feature of this yacht is the engine access in the centre of the boat under the saloon table. This centralises mass above the keel but also with the table lifted there is complete unhindered access all round the replacement Yanmar engine.
